Hi
2023 recap
It feels like it's been quite an eventful year, but honestly I think most of what's happened in tech is just a progression of last year.
The job market
The dev job market sucks this year - juniors are apparently really struggling to land roles, while it's still hard to hire seniors. There were mass layoffs at big tech at the start of the year but now it appears as though they are hiring again.
AI hype has continued to be a thing; in last year's recap I said
Personally, I'm not worried about AI taking my job
Considering the advancement in AI in such a short time, along with the state of the job market, I'm considering changing my stance here.
The world seems to be in a state of unpredictability; but as always, I have hope for the future.
Vita
Adapting to a new country has taken some time out of what I would normally spend on programming projects. I did create my most interesting project so far, vita.
Vita is a CRUD interface for storing arbitrary data type instances. For example, I can dynamically define a type for 'book' and then start adding entries of 'book'. I created an iOS app for easy entry and am tracking things like movies watched, games played, my mood, motivation levels, sleep quality and many others. I plan to use this data to see how things affect my mood and productivity. I'm already using the data to track my movie scores.
Seemingly not much has changed in the web dev world, but AI is growing at an insanely fast rate - very interesting to see what happens there.
